The following is a copy of a Text message sent by Shaykh Imran Ally:
Eternity is only for Allah and surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will all return.
Al-marhoom Ustaaz Asif Meherali was a gentleman, well spoken, and always had time for everyone who spoke to him. He was a student and a teacher of the Arabic Language and introduced the books and courses of al-marhoom Shaykh Dr V. Abdur Rahim to hundreds of thousands of students in Canada and around the world. As such, al marhoom Shaykh Dr V. Abdur Rahim’s Madina Books became a household name, maa shaa Allah
On a personal note, I remember studying from photocopied Madinah Books before proceeding to university. It was an honor to meet al-marhoom Shaykh Dr V. Abdur Rahim when he visited Toronto to attend graduation ceremonies of the Institute of the Language of the Quran which was led by al-mahroom Ustaaz Asif.
Al-marhoom Ustaaz Asif had the deepest passion for studying and teaching the Arabic Language since he believed that Muslims have no choice but to learn the language of the Qur’aan and then the speaking part of it will come gradually, in shaa Allah. Who can forget his Arabic grammatical songs? He developed these songs as an easy method for students to learn and retain the Arabic grammar, what creativity!
On a related note, I remember sending my highest level students to study with Al-mahroom Ustaaz Asif because of my admiration of his heartfelt dedication that he made for teaching the Arabic Language. In addition, Ustaaz Asif introduced Islamic books at a very reasonable cost to encourage more reading within the Muslim community. His not for profit bookstore is based at Talim-ul-Islam, however, his books reached across Canada and beyond, maa shaa Allah.
May Allah forgive and have mercy upon al-marhoom Ustad Asif. May Allah grant patience and strength to all hisloved ones, relatives, students, and friends
Ameen

Another Tribute message that was posted:
Ustadh Asif was an inspiration.
He volunteered his time for nearly 30 years teaching Arabic grammar to understand the Quran.
He always emphasized how the beauty and the magic of the Quran can ONLY be understood with proper Arabic grammar foundations.
He spent his time and energy dedicated to that singular goal: helping people understand the Quran.
He also started the legendary, peerless nonprofit bookstore. In a time when everything is commodified,, he chose to run a bookstore voluntarily so that books can be sold at cost price.
Even when his health was deteriorating, he continued to volunteer.
He would send weekly e-mails with summarized notes about Tafsir lessons he used to teach, to benefit his students afterwards.
